Description of the location
The national monument at Vitkov is one of the most distinctive characteristics of our capital city.
This national cultural monument, placed at the top of Vitkov with its specific ‘genius loci’, offers an impressive view of Prague.
The place itself is connected to an important period of Czech history: Hussitism, the emancipation of the modern Czech nation, legionary tradition, the ideals of the first republic, however, also the protectorate and a period of communist dictatorship. The stately building of the monument, that was, during the period of its inception, along with the statue of John Hus from Trocnov, concieved to be a modern dominant of the capitol city, also symbolicly reflects the complexity of the modern age destiny of the Czech lands.

Zizkov
